SendToBooks Now Works With Claude and ChatGPT

Here’s a real exchange from this morning — a bookkeeper in St. Paul, Claude on her laptop, her live SendToBooks account on the other end:

Rachel didn’t open our web app. She didn’t export a CSV. She didn’t dig through anyone’s email. She asked Claude, and Claude answered — using her live SendToBooks data, in real time, with her clients’ actual books.

That’s what we shipped today. SendToBooks now works as a native integration inside Claude and ChatGPT via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). If you’re on the Individual plan, you can connect it to your own books. If you’re on the Professional plan, you can query across every client you manage — the same permissions you’d have in our web app, exposed to Claude as tools it knows how to use.

What you can actually do with it

A few examples from the last few weeks of testing:

• A contractor asked Claude: “What’s my total spend on the Anderson job so far?” Claude pulled every receipt tagged to Anderson Kitchen and answered $4,220.
• A CPA asked: “Which of my clients have unmatched bank transactions this month?” Claude called our reconciliation status endpoint and returned three clients with unresolved items.
• A trucker asked: “Draft my Schedule C summary for last year.” Claude pulled a full year-to-date breakdown by category and drafted the summary. He verified it against his records and filed the same afternoon.
• A bookkeeper used ChatGPT to build a client-facing PDF from the same data. Claude and ChatGPT both work — the protocol is open.

Why we built it

I’ve been watching accountants and bookkeepers wire Claude into their daily workflows for six months now. Every one of them was doing the same thing: exporting CSVs from their tools, pasting them into Claude, asking questions. The workflow was better than nothing. It was also incredibly clunky.

Meanwhile, MCP shipped and started to mature. It’s an open protocol from Anthropic that lets any AI assistant talk to any tool with proper authentication. Once it was clear MCP was the standard, the only question was when do we ship?

The answer turned out to be today.

We’re the first small-business receipt tracker with a production MCP server. We probably won’t be the last, but for the next few months we’re the option that already works — and we built it specifically for the CPAs, bookkeepers, and small firms who are already living in Claude anyway.

What’s next

Today’s release is read-only. Claude and ChatGPT can query your receipts, books, reconciliation status, and — on the Professional plan — your client roster. They can’t modify anything, upload anything, or change your data.

That’s deliberate. LLMs hallucinate. Before we let them modify your books, we want to see how the read-only surface gets used in the wild, tighten the tools where they need tightening, and roll out write access carefully.

Coming in v1.1:

• upload_receipt — attach a receipt image from Claude or ChatGPT directly to your inbox
• add_receipt_comment — leave notes on any receipt, useful for CPAs annotating client work
• flag_for_review — flag receipts that need human attention

Coming after that:

• Google Drive MCP integration, so you can query your receipt exports directly
• A QuickBooks MCP bridge for firms running both
• Batch operations for advisors managing 20+ clients

How to connect it

If you use Claude:

1. Go to claude.ai/settings/integrations
2. Click “Add integration”
3. Search “SendToBooks” or paste mcp.sendtobooks.com
4. Log in with your existing SendToBooks account
5. That’s it. Ask Claude anything about your books.

If you use ChatGPT:

1. Go to ChatGPT → Settings → Connectors
2. Add MCP server: mcp.sendtobooks.com
3. Complete the OAuth flow
4. Done.

One more thing
